![]() EA says it expects real pros to use the game to practice their putting in the run-up to the Masters.EA Sports PGA Tour will launch in spring 2022, Electronic Arts said on Monday, confirming assumptions that EA Sports’ return to a professional golf sim would happen sometime around the next Masters Tournament.ĮA gave the launch window in a news release timed with the beginning of this week’s 2021 PGA Championship, which is being held at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. Interestingly, EA says it had Augusta’s caddies, who know the course’s greens inside and out, playtest the game, turn off the green grid indicator and read individual putts to see if the ball would react in the game on Augusta’s greens as it would do in real life, and apparently, EA nailed it. EA has also invested a lot of time in ball physics so that the ball behaves as it would in real life when bouncing and rolling across and impacting different terrains at different courses. ![]() Each shot type is unique to each club and trajectory, and apparently, under the hood, there are over 1,300 different physics profiles that power these shots. EA is introducing 20 different shot types to EA Sports PGA Tour, so you will need to pick each club and each shot before swinging away with the analogue stick. EA is touting a technology known as Pure Strike, which is powered by official PGA Tour ShotLink and TrackMan data, which gives players a plethora of different tools to be able to attack each hole. As for gameplay, EA is doing some interesting things with EA Sports PGA Tour. However, what really caught my attention was that EA has also scanned in actors for its “ultrarealistic crowds,” which is something that is definitely lacking in PGA Tour 2K23. Of course, EA has used the latest head and body scanning technology to bring the players to life in the game. It’s unclear how many pros will be available at launch, and while Tiger won’t be among them, you can expect to play as Jordan Spieth, Scottie Schefler, Nelly Korda, Tony Finau, Patrick Cantlay, Lexi Thompson, Danielle Kang, and many more. From clubhouses and vegetation to tee markers and rock formations, a lot of time has been spent getting the look and feel of each course correct.Īs for licensed pro golfers, EA says you can play as or against more pros than any other golf game has delivered. It’s clear that EA has put a lot of effort into the look and recreation of these courses. EA is not messing around here - the development team have used state-of-the-art technology, such as a custom LiDAR solution, drones, helicopters, and more, to develop terrain maps so it can recreate each course, complete with all the slopes, bunkers, and green elevations you could ever wish for with extreme accuracy. At launch, EA Sports PGA Tour will feature 30 courses, including famous courses such as Augusta National Golf Club, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Southern Hills Country Club, The Old Course at St Andrews Links, and many more, all designed using EA’s Frostbite engine, and from the brief gameplay and screenshots I’ve seen, the courses look stunning. You will also be able to compete for the FedExCup, in the amateur Championships, including the Augusta National Women's Amateur, the U.S. According to EA, the most-requested feature fans wanted in a new golf title was to be able to play in the four Major championship events: the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. ![]() EA Sports PGA Tour is the exclusive home of the Majors - an impressive feat of license-wrangling in this day and age.
